Twitter Finally Rolled out 280 Character Limit to all Users Globally

Earlier this year, Twitter disclosed plans to double tweets character. Since then, the popular social network formed a test group that allowed some users to double the character length from 140 to 280. The test was successful; twitter was satified. Now the feature has been released to the public, and everyone can tweet up to 280 characters.

Twitter is well known as a social networking service where users post and interact with messages (tweets), restricted to 140 characters. But for the first time, the new character limit for most Twitter users globally is now officially 280 characters per tweet.

During the test period, Only 5% of tweets sent were longer than 140 characters while only 2% were over 190. Mind you, this data was collected before the limit was changed for the vast majority of Twitter users.

Meanwhile, some languages like Japanese, Chinese and Korean will continue to have a 140 character cap. This is because they take fewer characters to say something that would take many more to express in other languages.

To enjoy this new feature, simply update your Twitter app.
